Francesca Long

I’m Fancy! For as long as I can remember I have been the go to person when it came to personal finance amongst my friends and family. I talked about personal finance so much one of my friends suggested I start a blog, so I could help people on their financial journey. So I did just that.

My financial journey has not always been pretty. My real financial growth happened after I graduated with my bachelors in December 2014. I was $25,000 in student loan debt. I applied to Physical Therapy school and didn’t get accepted. I was told I would be more competitive if I had a masters degree. In January 2016 I started working on a masters, and in one semester I racked up another $10,000 in student loan debt. I realized that the masters I was getting had similar job opportunities as my bachelors. I told myself that I was not going further in to debt with no guarantee of a job. I decided to stop pursuing a masters. But at this point I had about $40,000 in debt. About $37,000 in student loans and about $3,000 in consumer debt. I needed to make a change.

In June 2016 I decided that I was going to become debt free. By March 2018 I was completely debt free. Yes I paid off about $40,000! However, this journey was not easy. There were many road blocks along the way. I decided to share my story to connect with others who have has similar experiences. I also want to give knowledge to assist people in avoiding the same mistakes I made. If I help just one person avoid my mistakes, then this blog has served its purpose.
